As the plaque reads:

Hon. W. J. Patterson
1886-1976

As Premier of Saskatchewan from 1935 to 1944, William John Pattison had to cope with a depression then a war. But that was only one aspect of his public career. Earlier he held various portfolios in Premier's Gardiner's cabinet and was a long time member of the legislature from his first election in 1921 to his retirement in 1949. He further served his province as Lieutenant Governor from 1951-1958. Born at Grenfell, he was the first native-born Saskatchewan Premier and Lieutenant Governor.
