Das Miniatur Wunderland (MiWuLa) in Hamburg ist die größte Modelleisenbahnanlage der Welt. Sie befindet sich in der historischen Speicherstadt (Weltkulturerbe 2015) und wird von der Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg GmbH betrieben. Auf der 1490 Quadratmeter großen Anlagenfläche liegen insgesamt 15,4 Kilometer Gleise (Stand Oktober 2016) im Maßstab 1:87 (Nenngröße H0; entspräche in der Realität etwa 1340 Kilometer Gleise), auf denen rund 1040 digital gesteuerte Züge verkehren.
Besonderheiten:
Einsetzende Dunkelheit auf dem Jahrmarkt
Zu den Besonderheiten gehört ein simulierter Tagesablauf, bei dem sich alle 15 Minuten Dämmerung, Nacht und Tag wiederholen. Dazu gehört eine automatische Lichtsteuerung, die die über 300.000 Lampen zur Tageszeit passend schaltet.
Die 120 Quadratmeter große Fantasiestadt Knuffingen mit rund 6.000 Einwohnern ist mit über 100 beweglichen Modellautos ausgestattet, darunter auch zahlreiche Feuerwehrfahrzeuge, mit denen in Knuffingen im Schnitt alle 15 Minuten ein Feuerwehreinsatz simuliert wird. Die Verkehrssimulation wird durch ein modifiziertes Car-System ermöglicht, das auch in den Abschnitten USA, Skandinavien und Knuffingen Airport eingesetzt wird. Die Bewegung der Flugzeuge am Boden ist mit Hilfe einer an das Car-System angelehnten Technik realisiert.
Die Anlage gilt als detailreich, als Beispiele gelten eine sich verändernde Spielstandsanzeige im Volksparkstadion und eine magnetisch gesteuerte Kuh in einem Kuhfladen-Bingo-Spiel, ein verunglückter Käserad-Laster sowie ein Miniatur-Blinkenlights im Hamburg-Teil. Durch rund 200 Schalter können die Besucher Vorgänge auf der Anlage steuern: Zum Beispiel startet ein Bergwerkszug, Windräder drehen sich, im Volksparkstadion fällt das nächste Tor, ein Space Shuttle startet oder ein Hubschrauber hebt ab. Ein Schalter ermöglicht es dem Besucher sogar die Produktion einer kleinen Tafel Schokolade in einer Fabrik zu beobachten und das fertige Produkt selbst zu probieren.
Während besonderer Führungen ist auch ein Blick hinter die Kulissen möglich. An den zahlreichen auch dort angebrachten Figuren zeigt sich, dass die Detailverliebtheit auch an vom normalen Publikumsbereich nicht einsehbaren Stellen nicht aufhört.

On the 1490-square-meter plant surface, a total of 15.4 kilometers of tracks (as of October 2016) are in 1:87 scale (nominal size H0, equivalent to approximately 1340 kilometers of tracks), with some 1040 digitally controlled trains running.
Particularities:
Incipient darkness on the fair
One of the special features is a simulated daily routine in which every 15 minutes twilight, night and day are repeated. This includes an automatic light control, which switches the over 300,000 lamps into the daytime.
The 120 square meter Fantasiestadt Knuffingen with around 6,000 inhabitants is equipped with more than 100 movable models, including numerous fire-fighting vehicles, which are used to simulate a fire service on average every 15 minutes in Knuffingen. The traffic simulation is made possible by a modified car system, which is also used in the sections USA, Scandinavia and Knuffingen Airport. The movement of the aircraft on the ground is realized with the aid of a technique based on the car system.
The installation is considered to be detailed, as examples are a changing display of the game in the Volkssparkstadion and a magnetically controlled cow in a cowfucker bingo game, an unfortunate cheese wheel truck and a miniature blinklights in the Hamburg part. With around 200 switches, visitors can control operations on the system: for example, a mining train starts, windmills are turning, the next gate is struck in the Volksparkstadion, a space shuttle starts or a helicopter lifts. A switch allows the visitor to even observe the production of a small bar of chocolate in a factory and to taste the finished product.
During guided tours you can also look behind the scenes. It is evident from the many figures that are also there, that the lack of detail does not cease even at places which are not visible from the normal audience.
