This you are here map is on an information board situated ay the north-western corner of the car park at Balkello Community Woodland. This is where the various walks through the woods begin.
Balkello Wood was planted in the 1990s at the foot of the Sidlaw Hills to the north of Dundee. The highest summits of the Sidlaw's lie immediately to the north of the wood and can be reached from here.
The map depicts the two main trails through the woodland. The Raven Trail is on the higher ground and the Woodland Wander is lower down.
Also on the board is information on the wildlife, including ravens and roe deer along with 100 types of beetle. 150,000 young trees were planted and there are 130 species of flowering plant.
There is also information on Sydney Scroggie, the blind hill walker and poet who has a memorial cairn on top of Balluderon Hill, half a mile above the sign.
The car park is open, April - September 8am to 10pm, and October - March 8am to 5pm.
