This memorial has a two-fold purpose - to honor all Sweetwater County residents who served in World War II, and a special honor to those Sweetwater County residents who died while serving in World War II.

The main panels are capped with the phrase, "THESE DESERVE YOUR LOVE AND THANKS." Inscribed below that are several hundred names.

A separate, smaller panel begins with, "THESE DID NOT RETURN TO SHARE THE PEACE THEY HELPED TO PRESERVE FOR OTHERS." Listed below that inscription is about 50 names.

Finally, another panel bears the following inscription -

........IN A PERIOD OF

MEDITATION AFTER THE

BLOOD AND SWEAT OF

BATTLE, WE PEOPLE HAVE

WRITTEN IN STONE A STORY

THAT WE HOPE FUTURE

GENERATIONS WILL REMEMBER

...WE AND OTHER FREE

PEOPLES OF THE WORLD

TURNED FROM OUR COMMON

EVERYDAY TASKS TO HELP

EACH OTHER OVERPOWER

ORGANIZED EVIL FORCES

THE SIMPLE HUMAN DIGNITY

OF MAN . . . MAY FUTURE

GENERATIONS BE STRONG

IN THEIR FREEDOM.

REMEMBER THE COSTLY

SACRIFICE OF WAR AND

MAINTAIN A WORTHWHILE

PEACE THAT MEN MAY

LIVE FREE FROM FEAR TO

SERVE ONE ANOTHER . . . . .
