Byrkley Park is a large garden centre, opened in 1986, just outside Burton on Trent, near Rangemore, accessed by a tree lined lane.

Byrkley Garden Centre is set in a Victorian walled kitchen garden, formerly part of the country mansion, Byrkley Lodge, which was built for Hamar Bass, of brewing fame, between 1887 and 1891. The name is derived from that of the family de Berkeley of Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire. In the 13th century there was a hunting lodge on this site. Thomas de Berkeley was keeper of the Tutbury ward and occasionally resided here.

The plaque is located at the edge of a small flower bed in the disabled parking area at the front entrance to the garden centre. The inscription on the plaque reads as follows;
'Planted on 11th June 2011
by
Diarmuid Gavin
To celebrate 25 years
of
Byrkley Garden Centre.'

'Diarmuid Gavin visits Strikes Garden Centre
On Saturday 11th June, Diarmuid called in at Byrkley Garden Centre near Rangemore, Strikes’ latest acquisition, to join in their 25th Anniversary celebrations. Byrkley has greeted the Midlands gardening community since 1986; set in a Victorian walled kitchen garden, formerly part of the country mansion, Byrkley Lodge, this award winning garden centre has now become one of the largest and most well respected in the country.
Customers were delighted to see Diarmuid and while there he also planted a commemorative tree and conducted a question and answer session for local interested gardeners.' Source: (visit link)
