Auf den ältesten beiden Stadtsiegeln wird Maria, auf einem Thron sitzend, in der rechten Hand eine Kirche, in der linken Hand eine Stadt haltend, dargestellt. Die Siegelumschrift: “MATER DEI PATRONA CIVIUM ANDERNACENSIUM” (deutsch: „Mutter Gottes, Patronin (Schutzherrin) der Andernacher Bürger“). Der älteste Siegelstempel (Typar) ist vor 1200 entstanden, der erste Abdruck aus dem Jahr 1250 erhalten."
