[FR] L'église Saint-Henri des Anses-d'Arlet, en bordure de plage, est connue comme un des plus beaux sites de Martinique, notamment en raison de son alignement exact avec le ponton.
La première chapelle est dédiée à saint Antoine de Padoue. Le premier baptême date de 1671. Une première église remplace la chapelle en 1673. En 1762 et 1763, l'église est totalement incendiée par les Anglais. Elle est entièrement reconstruite par Henri Larcher.
Partiellement détruite par un cyclone, en 1817, elle est réparée en 1818 avec des fonds accordés par le gouvernement. En 1856,on construit l'avant corps et le clocher et en 1874 on ajoute une sacristie.
En 1956, la municipalité afait refaire le gros œuvre de l'agrandissement de l'église et du clocher.
Le séisme de novembre 2007 a engendré d'importantes fissures sur le clocher et le massif d'entrée. Une intervention a été programmée pour restaurer celui-ci.
Malheureusement cette église a été touchée par l'ouragan Dean en 2007, elle a été totalement restaurée à l'identique en 2012.
[EN] The Saint-Henri church of Anses-d'Arlet, near the beach, is known as one of the most beautiful sites of Martinique, in particular because of its exact alignment with the pontoon.
The first chapel is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. The first baptism dates from 1671. A first church replaces the chapel in 1673. In 1762 and 1763, the church is completely burnt by the English. It is entirely rebuilt by Henri Larcher.
Partially destroyed by a cyclone in 1817, it was repaired in 1818 with funds granted by the government. In 1856, the forecourt and the bell-tower were built, and in 1874 a sacristy was added.
In 1956, the municipality had to rebuild the church and bell tower.
The November 2007 earthquake resulted in significant cracks in the bell tower and inlet massif. An intervention has been scheduled to restore it.
Unfortunately this church was hit by Hurricane Dean in 2007, it was totally restored to the identical in 2012.
