At the corner of Main and Broadway in downtown Sand Springs, is a small park with a memorial to Charles Page (June 2, 1860-Dec. 27, 1926), a philanthropist and industrialist, who was responsible for the founding of Sand Springs. Arriving in Oklahoma Indian Territory in 1901, he began forging his wealth in the oil industry. Moved by the plight of orphans and widows, he purchased land west of Tulsa for the sole purpose of establishing a town and businesses to support countless numbers of widows and orphans.
The story of Charles Page's life epitomizes what this Scripture says. A memorial here has a life-sized sculpture of Charles Page, together with a sculpture of a woman and baby, and another sculpture of two children. On the granite wall, beneath the sculpture of Page, is a bronze plaque reading:
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one
of the least of these my brethren
ye have done it unto me
Charles Page lived out these words of Jesus, and he is a hero in the town of Sand Springs.
