The Canadian Museum of History is located at 100 Laurier in Hull secteur of Gatineau. Aside from the chance to visit a popular national museum, there are great views of the Ottawa River, the Rideau Canal and the Parliament Buildings.
The flag display is outdoors above the Panorama Salon. Museum admission is not required. However, access to the level of the flags is restricted daily and seasonally.
Like many flag displays in the national capital region, the display consists of fourteen flags: national, provincial and territorial. As usual, the flags are arranged by the province's date of entry in confederation and then the territory's date of creation.
However, this arrangement at the museum is unique. Sitting at the bench at the posted co-ordinates, one views the national flag of Canada. From the Canadian flag, the sequence of the sub-national flags alternates between right side and left side of the flag of Canada. Left of the national flag are Québec, New Brunswick, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Yukon. Right of the flag of Canada are Ontario, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
