The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Solitude, named after the Virgin of Solitude which is the patron saint of Acapulco. The blue, white, and gold cathedral was built in 1930 in the style of a mosque. The cathedral is based on a design by Adamo Boari. It was damaged by a hurricane in 1938 and reconstructed in 1940 in the Byzantine and Moorish style under the supervision of architect Federico Mariscal. The present day cathedral was completed in 1950.

The cathedral contains a central, Moorish style, 70' wide, blue, and gold dome and a pair of Byzantine towers flanking the main entrance onto the Plaza Álvarez, which are suggestive of minarets. The dome is blue with a gold lines radiating from the top that divides the some into 18 equal segments. Each segment is further divided by four concentric gold rings giving rise to a total of 72 cells. Every third segment has the images of angels painted within each cell.
