In a large and fairly new brick building, the Houlton Fire Department has in their building four spiffy pieces of apparatus, a ladder truck, a pumper, a tandem pumper-tanker and a first response-rescue vehicle. The department serves a population of just over 6,000 plus the near rural area. The department has no web page so we have no information on the number of staff. We suspect that it is primarily volunteer with some paid staff. Part of the building is occupied by the ambulance service.

Following is the apparatus lineup:

Engine 401 1998 Freightliner/Smeal
Pumper-Tanker 402 2003 Freightliner/Metalfab
Ladder 406 1994 Spartan/Smeal
Rescue 404 1994 2007 Freightliner/Summit rescue

The photo below, courtesy of the city of Houlton, shows most of their apparatus. From left to right they are the ladder truck, the pumper-tanker and the pumper.
