This route was created by the consul Cneus Domitius Ahenobarbus during the conquest of the Midi de la Gaulle (120 BC), probably on the old road "Via Heraklea", is the oldest road built in France. The Romans are masters in the construction of tracks and the strength of these, their permit to resist until today. Thanks to two sighting devices, the groma and the Chorobate, these are paths of rectilinear itineraries that are marked out by birth, relays or works of art, some of which have reached us.
Legend>La borne de la Tavernourne
Located in the center of the Mane plain, halfway between the bus stations of Catuiacia (Cereste) and Alaunium (Notre Dame des Angues) in Lurs, at an important crossroads, the Tavernoure Taberna, the hostel) could mark the location or proximity of an antique (mutatio) road stop.
From this point, we will observe the rectilinear route of the characteristic view of the Roman roads and the organization throughout the plain of the Laye, of the parcel, perpendicular and parallel to this axis, which seems to perpetuate an ancient cadatration (Guy Barruol). Approximate: 30 and 40 cm long and wide for 90 cm high on a round foot 25 cm high, much wider than the marker
This marker marks today, (but for how long?) The limit between the communes of Mane, Dauphin and St Michel l'Observatoire
Type of survey mark: A sculpted stone. All brand has been eroded
What indicators are near the mark to help people identify where it is located?: Juste sur le bord de la route laissée par les romains / Just on the edge of the road left by the Romans
