[EN] Historic monument of the 18th century, it is the jewel of our city. Built of cut stone, it is distinguished from other churches by its bell tower located just beside the building.
It is structured in the "Jesuit" style, surmounted by two superimposed Tuscan orders.
Nestled in the middle of the second order, above the front door, Etienne, our patron saint watches over.
The interior is equally astonishing with the framework that recalls the hull of an overturned boat.
In the choir is a magnificent white marble altar, which according to legend was intended for the cathedral of Lima, but it was wrecked not far from the coast of the Marino.
In fact, the altar would simply have been offered to the parish by Mr. François Cornet thanks to a bequest of 6,000 livres. The latter had already distinguished himself with the offering of two statues: that of the Virgin and the child, and that of Saint-Etienne.
[FR] Monument historique du 18ème siècle, c’est le joyau de notre ville. Construite en pierre de taille, elle se distingue des autres églises par son clocher situé juste à côté de l’édifice.
Structure de style « Jésuite », elle est surmontée de deux ordres toscans superposés.
Niché au milieu du deuxième ordre, au-dessus de la porte d’entrée, Etienne, notre saint patron veille.
L’intérieur est tout aussi surprenant avec la charpente qui rappelle la carène d’un bateau renversé.
Dans le chœur se trouve un magnifique autel de marbre blanc qui selon la légende, était destiné à la cathédrale de Lima, mais, il aurait fait naufrage non loin des côtes du Marin.
En fait, l’autel aurait tout simplement été offert à la paroisse par monsieur François Cornet grâce à un legs de 6 000 livres. Ce dernier s’était déjà distingué avec l’offrande de deux statues : celle de la Vierge et de l’enfant et celle de Saint-Étienne.
