The dam is 200' in length and 16' above the rock ledge. It is built on the Ottauquechee River. It is a contributing structure to the Taftsville Historic District as listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The dam was built primarily to create a reservoir above its location. The Taftsville Hydrolectric Station was built at this location in 1924. It's a 500 kW station (it can produce a half-million watts of power), and is operated by Central Vermont Public Service.
