The fountain located on the square named after the fountain - Siebenbrunnenplatz. It was built in 1904 by Richard Kauffungen in occasion of 60th birthday of then Vienna's mayor Karl Lueger and to remind the existence of the first water supply in 1562 system which led just from this area, from seven wells, to Hofburg castle in the city center (see (visit link) The suburbs places where the wells were later merged and formed 5th Vienna district - Margareten. The coat-of-arms of these suburbs are presented on the fountain.
