The ceremonies commemorating the centenary of Frédéric Mistral's death ended on Saturday 20 September 2014, a day devoted entirely to the memory of the great Provençal writer who died in 1914, leaving many works and a Nobel Prize for literature obtained in 1904.
Among the tributes given to the writer, the Espace Frédéric Mistral was inaugurated in the garden of the Couvent des Observantins followed by a presentation of the life of Frédéric Mistral in Provençal by Olivier Neige, president of Lou Fougau Prouvençau and a text by Frédéric Mistral on the Provençal language by Raoul Decugis, President of the Chemins du Patrimoine.
Frédéric Mistral (8 September 1830 – 25 March 1914) was a French writer and lexicographer of the Occitan language. Mistral received the 1904 Nobel Prize in Literature "in recognition of the fresh originality and true inspiration of his poetic production, which faithfully reflects the natural scenery and native spirit of his people, and, in addition, his significant work as a Provençal philologist". He was a founding member of Félibrige and a member of l'Académie de Marseille.
