Along the top of the wall, the fading ghost sign reads as follows: KENNETH MCDONALD. Kenneth McDonald and sons operated a business in the Byward Market from 1876 until 1966. The business began with a focus on agricultural implements. Eventually, seeds became the big attraction. By the late 1940s, Kenneth McDonald and sons' employees numbered more than seventy five. It was a true family business which included three generations: sons John Alfred McDonald and Kenneth P McDonald; daughter-in-law Marion McDonald and grandsons John R McDonald, Stuart Edward (Ted) McDonald and Douglas McDonald.
