Old prison built by Marquês de Pombal in 1776. Nowadays is a Museum dedicated to the history of Pombal.
It worked as prison until the end of XIXth century. It was then used for several other functions like warehouse.
In july 2004 it was the big opening of the old jail as the city's museum.
Here you can find an exhibition with the history of Pombal and of the Marquês de Pombal (1699-1782). He was appointed as Marquis of Pombal in 1769.
