The large signs on bus stops, and around Burleigh Heads advertise, "1 FREE Nippers meal with every full priced main meal purchased."
* For those unfamiliar with this definition of "Nippers", it means children active in their local surf life saving club from the age of FIVE, to THIRTEEN. (
visit link) The Queensland website describes some of the activities that they will be up to, and it does encourage the parents to also be involved in their community. *
Interestingly the signs do NOT say the children actually HAVE to be an Active Nipper, but rather there is a Nippers Meal on the Club Menu. So it seems to imply the upper age of the child to get served a free meal.
Now, even if it was a pre-requisite of the child to be an Active Nipper in a Surf Life Saving Club somewhere (which I doubt is the intent), this could be seen as bordering on 'Favouritism', and be a 'Conflict of Interest'. From my hopefully impartial view [my sons have never been in Nippers], I would see that the socialisation into a great volunteer community can only be an advantage to the social, mental, and physical health of any child.
The Club does have an inherent interest in making as many healthy choices available for the diners.
