Sandy Sensation was opened by the Deputy Provost of Angus, Peter Murphy on June 30th 2009. It was built by Angus Council at a cost of £980,000.

It is situated on the seafront in the town of Carnoustie only yards from the beach near the Pavilion and the Leisure Centre next to a free car park.

In addition to the sand based play area, there is also a paddling pool, a 9 hole crazy golf course, 2 tennis courts, a wheeled sports area, and a picnic area. The crazy golf and tennis courts are open from April to September, all other amenities are open all year round.
