While this sign states the District Population of Karoonda as 1,300 the Wikipedia article on Karoonda (visit link) , using 2006 census figures, has the population at 514!
I did notice in my travel through Karoonda, while looking for a geocache, that while there had been four active churches in Karoonda, that now there are only TWO.
Karoonda was founded in 1913 as a wheat growing area, with merino sheep also farmed here, for which the town has also become quite well-known.
On the evening of 25 November, 1930 a meteorite fell just east of the town.
The public school of Karoonda was the first 'Area School' in South Australia.
