The village of Marsden is located in a steep valley in the Pennine Hills and pack horses were the main form of transport in earlier centuries.

The bridge is next to St. Bartholomew's church, although the present building was not there when the bridge was built an older chapel would have been there at the time but has since been demolished.

The bridge is a Historic England Grade II* listed Building. "C17 or C18. Slender single span arched packhorse bridge over River Colne. Coursed rubble with rounded copings. Narrow walkway with good setted surface." link
