25 High Street has not been given listing status but is probably of C18th build as are most of the adjacent buildings. It is of two storeys and two bays, the entrance door is to the right of the window. The door case is six-paneled and has a flat cornice, the sash window has a segmental topped frame. On the second floor the windows are both of the sash type but that at the right is about ¾ the height of the left-hand one. There is an eaves band and a pantiled roof.
As the postal service grew a centre was required to handle the servicing of this demand and an office was opened here in c1815. When the Penny Post was introduced in 1840 this demand grew even faster such that by 1851 this house could no longer cope and a new post office was built in the town. The postmistress during this period of growth was one Hannah Southgate.
The blue plaque to the left of the entrance door has been placed here to commemorate the use of no.25 as the Post Office and to commemorate Hanah Southgate's tenure by the Wells Local History Group.
