No.28 High Street has not been given listing status and is probably of C18th build. It looks as if it has been updated sometime since building. It is of three bays and has been rendered, the entrance door, modern and four-panelled, is in the centre with two steps from the street. The ground floor windows are multi-casements of 1-3-6 pattern. These windows and the door case are pilastered with scrolled heads and flat cornices. The upper storey has replacement casement windows, whilst the roof is pantiled.
The building was a public house – yes another one – from c.1750 to 1865 it was the Green Dragon then from 1870 until 1896 it was known as the Dukes Head. The house has a lane to its left side known as Green Dragon Lane to this day.
Two blue plaques to the left of the entrance door have been placed here to commemorate this use and the pub names by the Wells Local History Group.
