This site was used as a training ground for the 8th and 17th Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War. The training grounds were call Camp Kane after the county where the camp is located. The land for the Camp was donated by Colonel John Farnsworth (later General) who was the commander of the 8th Illinois Cavalry Regiment.

The Camp is now a Langum Park.
