Sign relays the history of the White Rock Canyon bridge. It was in use as part of US 93 from 1933 until the early 1980's.
Marker text reads:
Historic White Rock Canyon Bridge was designed by
the Bureau of Public Roads in cooperation with the Arizona
State Highway Department between 1933 and 1934 as part of
the Kingman to Boulder Dam Highway. The bridge was
an essential feature of this highway providing unrestricted
crossing of White Rock Canyon during heavy rains and
provided the most direct route from Phoenix to Las Vegas
via Kingman and the Boulder Dam (later changed to the Hoover Dam).
The historic White Rock Canyon Bridge and its decorative
'balustrade' barrier is a good example of its type. The bridge
design is noteworthy for its association with the
early development of the Arizona State Highway System,
Depression-era road projects, early interstate commerce and travel,
and construction of the Boulder Dam.
There are also several vintage photographs on the marker.
