The sign is in the central part of the main section of the cemetery, in a fenced-in memorial area, accompanied by Oakwood Cemetery's Texas Historical Marker, a 9/11 memorial, and a memorial to those who are buried here. The sign says:
Site of Oakwood Chapel
1907-1986
The white clapboard octagon chapel was built by the Twentieth Century Club in 1907. The chapel portico was supported by two white columns on which was mounted this marble plaque. The chapel was furnished with pews, a pump organ and wood burning stove. Many funerals were sheltered here during the early half of the 20th century. On Oct. 3, 1986 during a high wind storm a large oak tree split and crushed the chapel beyond repair.
