The birthplace of Jiljí Vratislav Jahn, Czech writer, politician and chemist, is located in a small Gothic-Renaissance house - part of Príhrádek (barbican) next to Chateau of Pardubice.
The birthplace is denoted by bronze tablet, work of sculptor Miloslav Baše, which was unveiled ceremonially in September 1924.
Jiljí Vratislav Jahn (*January 22, 1838 in Pardubice – †May 18, 1902 in Prague) was Czech chemist, high school teacher of chemistry, politician (member of Parliament), writer and poet.
So called "Príhrádek" at Pardubice Chateau, in reality its barbican, is pictoresque residue of late-Gothic fortification of Pardubice Chateau (originally castle) and city of Pardubice. Thanks to Pernstejns' late-Gothic and lately Renaissance construction development of Pardubice in end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century (ca 1492-1515), the Pardubice Chateau could only be reached through the town centre and the unusually wide streets Pernštýnská and Zámecká. The exclusivity of local houses represented the typical Pernstein residence. So-called Príhradek (barbican) connects the Old town and the Chateau. It served as a fortress-like gateway to the Chateau as well as the seat of the chateau keeper. The tower, gate and cores of majority of Prihradek's houses are Gothic with later Renaissance, Baroque and Empire reshapings (new facades, wider windows, new roofs etc.).
