A 6' by 6' by 3' bronze statue of Benjamin Franklin is seated on a 3.5' by 7' by 4.75' slightly downwardly flared granite base. The sculpture was created by Paul Wayland and cast by J. Arthur Limerick Company. It was installed in front of the Silas Bronson Library and dedicated on June 3, 1921.

Benjamin Franklin sitting on a backless bench. He is wearing a period overcoat with large cuffed sleeves that extends over the back of the bench. He holds a cane with both hands vertically between his legs. Under his left hand is a copy of Poor Richard's Almanack. A book and a tri-cornered hat rests on the bench on his right side.

The front of the base is inscribed:

Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, MA. At the age of 12 he was . He worked for his father for a time, and at 12 he was apprenticed as a printer to his brother James. At age 17, Franklin quit his apprenticeship and moved to Philadelphia to work as a printer and to get a fresh start in life.

Benjamin Franklin was a polymath with remarkable success in a number of diverse fields. He:

was the publisher and printer The Pennsylvania Gazette.

was the author and publisher of Poor Richard's Almanack.

published his scientific results on his observations and experiments with electricity, the Gulf Stream, meteorology, and demographics.

invented of lightning rod, glass harmonica, Franklin stove, and bifocal glasses.

created the Union Fire Company, one of the first volunteer firefighting companies in America.

was Postmaster General for the American Colonies.

established a postal system in the American Colonies.

signer of the Declaration of Independence.

was the first Postmaster General of the United States.

was Ambassador to France between 1776 and 1785

served as a delegate to the 1797 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia Convention.

was President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania.

Benjamin Franklin died in Philadelphia, PA on April 17, 1790 at age 84.
