Located in Don Jones Memorial Park is a multi-war memorial dedicated in remembrance of every Oregon military service member killed in the line of duty since Oregon became a state in 1859. This war memorial was officially dedicated on November 11, 2015 and is comprised of separate monuments from each military branch of service as part of a circular memorial walk. There are also donated metal plaques embedded in the concrete paver walkway and a small gazebo as well. In the center of the memorial is an elevated bronze sculpture of two fighting eagles in flight. Flags of each branch of service surround the sculpture and war monuments to invoke an overall scene of patriotism.
One of the stand-alone monuments welcomes visitors and contains a marble plaque that reads:
Welcome
to
THE OREGON FALLEN WAR HEROES MEMORIAL
We honor all Oregonians who served our state and nation,
who shed their blood in defense of God, Family and Country.
They are Oregon's Fallen War Heroes.
We honor for their valor the men and women
whose names are engraved on these monuments.
They made the ultimate sacrifice.
They must never be forgotten.
We also honor the heroes who survived combat and returned home
with wounded bodies, hearts and minds--
many with pain hidden deep within their souls--
those unsung heroes who, by the grace of God, lived to fight another day.
The names of every service member from three branches of service are listed on individual monuments for World War I: Army, Navy and Marines.
