Brothers Orville and Samuel, Jr. were born to Samuel Joshua Schell and Seanie Ellen Hall in McDonald County, Missouri, and were grandsons to Henry Schell for which Shell Knob, in Barry County, is named, and who was murdered by bushwhackers in the US Civil War. (Printer and US postal service spelling errors lost the c from what had been Schell Knob.)

Both brothers served in World War II and are buried, respectively, in Ferndale, Washington and Whitier, California. This bench is in the cemetery where their parents are buried.
