So called "Príhradek" at Pardubice Chateau, in reality its barbican, is pictoresque residue of late-Gothic fortification of Pardubice Chateau (originally castle) and city of Pardubice.

Thanks to Pernstejns' late-Gothic and lately Renaissance construction development of Pardubice in end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century (ca 1492-1515), the Pardubice Chateau could only be reached through the town centre and the unusually wide streets Pernštýnská and Zámecká. The exclusivity of local houses represented the typical Pernstein residence. So-called Príhradek (barbican) connects the Old town and the Chateau. It served as a fortress-like gateway to the Chateau as well as the seat of the chateau keeper. The tower, gate and cores of majority of Prihradek's houses are Gothic with later Renaissance, Baroque and Empire reshapings (new facades, wider windows, new roofs etc.).

The Baroque granary at its entrance comes from the 2nd half of the 18th, the centered fountain from the lst third of the 19th century. The tablet on the house in front of the gate commemorates a significant figure living in Pardubice in the 2nd half of the 19th century - Jiljí Vratislav Jahn. The Gallery of the city of Pardubice also resides here.

Date Built: ca 1492-1515
