Der Walking Man ist eine von Jonathan Borofsky entworfene Skulptur im Münchner Stadtteil Schwabing.
Die 17 Meter hohe und 16 Tonnen schwere, weiße Skulptur steht seit September 1995 an der Leopoldstraße in München vor dem Eingang der Versicherung Munich Re, die das Werk im Rahmen ihrer Kunstförderung finanzierte. Die Figur ist in der Bewegung des Gehens begriffen.
Der Walking Man besteht aus einer in Los Angeles, Vereinigten Staaten gefertigten Stahlkonstruktion. Sie wurde dort in neun Teile zerlegt und per Luftfracht nach München transportiert, wo sie wieder zusammengesetzt wurde. Die Kunststoffummantelung besteht aus glasfaserverstärktem Kunststoff.
Schon von der Herstellung bis zum Transport und dem mehrwöchigen Aufbau der Skulptur, die von hoher Ingenieurskunst zeugt, ver- ging mehr als ein Jahr. Zunächst in Los Angeles angefertigt, wurde sie für ihren Transport nach München in neun Teile zerlegt und Anfang August 1995 per Luftfracht verschickt. Hebemaschinen richteten den 15 Tonnen schweren und doch filigranen Koloss Fuß für Fuß und Arm für Arm am Rande der Leopoldstraße auf - eine nur mit schwerem Gerät mögliche Aktion.

The Walking Man is a sculpture designed by Jonathan Borofsky in the Schwabing district of Munich.
The 17-meter high and 16-ton white sculpture has been on the Leopoldstrasse in Munich since September 1995 before the receipt of the Munich Re insurance, which financed the work as part of its art promotion. The figure is in the movement of walking.
The Walking Man consists of a steel construction made in Los Angeles, USA. It was divided into nine parts and transported by air to Munich, where it was reassembled. The plastic sheathing is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic.
It took more than a year to produce the sculpture, which is characterized by a high level of engineering. Initially made in Los Angeles, she was split into nine parts for her transport to Munich and sent by air in early August 1995. Lifting machines arranged the 15-ton, yet filigree, colossus foot for foot and arm for arm on the edge of the Leopoldstrasse - an action possible only with heavy equipment.
