The City of St. Charles was incorporated 1874. The first city building was built in 1898. The current Municipal Center was built in 1940. The building was designed by R. Harold Zook and D. Coder Taylor in Art Moderne style. The building features an eighty-four foot tall octagon tower with stained-glass windows and pierced grillwork.
