The national flag of Canada and the flags of its provinces and territories are symbols that represent Canadians. Traditionally, the national flag is presented first, followed by the provincial and then territorial flags, based on each province's and territory's date of entry into Confederation. The date appears on the nameplate found at the base of each flagpole.

The National Capital Commission (NCC) maintains this flag display southeast of the Canadian War Museum. The same plaque can be found on the flag display at Confederation Square. While not part of the museum property, this square is part of the NCC plan to revitalize the Lebreton Flats area.

As with many flag displays in the national capital region, there are fourteen flags. The flag of Canada followed by the flags of the ten provinces (in order of admission to the confederation) and then the three territorial entities (in order of their creation). Viewing from north to south the flags fly for Canada, Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut. Posted co-ordinates are for the flag of Canada.

These flags are normally unfurled because the wind blows off the river and down the flats, except for the day I visited with my camera.
