The sculpture was originally on the grounds of Kidd-Key College and Conservatory, which evolved from the merger of North Texas Female College and Mary-Nash College, both established during the last 25 years of the 19th century. During the 1930s, the City of Sherman purchased property, which included the sculpture, from the college.
