Above Garmisch-Partenkirchen (district Partenkirchen) there is the church “St. Anton”. From far away, you can see the tower of the church, looking like an onion, high above the church. The church St. Anton was build in 1704–08 with eight corners. In 1734–36 Joseph Schmutzer from Wessobrunn rebuilt the church and enlarged it with an oval building and arcades. On its south facade, just under its roof nicely painted vertical sundial can be found. On the sundial the Virgin Mary is depicted as the Queen of Heaven and in semicircular ribbon around there are Latin numerals for hours measuring time from 6 a.m. until IV p.m.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
