"Keep San Marcos Beautiful" surrounds a mermaid in the middle of the mural. The upper corners hold cypress trees and herons. Both bottom corners hold salamanders that are endemic to a small region of the headwaters of the San Marcos River.

Mural Designer Morgan Haberle Egan says she found inspiration from the old Aquarena Springs Theme Park and “the San Marcos Aquarena Spring Mermaids, who are no longer performing but I wanted to use that imagery in the middle of the mural.”
