The Boat is located along side the Cauldon Canal on Basford Bridge Lane in Cheddleton.
The pub sign depicts a barge on the canal near a bridge, with a man leaning on the wall of the bridge looking down. It is a pillory sign- one that is freestanding and in this location is situated away from the pub near the car park at the side of the road.
The pub is located next to the canal which is probably where it derives its name.

The Boat has a large outside eating and drinking area and is also close to the Cheddleton Steam Railway museum.
