The Garff District Parish Commissioners (formerly Maughold Parish Commisioners) now have ownership of this de-commissioned telephone box on the junction of Jacks Lane in Port e Vullen.
The red box is now operated by Maughold Parish Social Club as a point of exchange – for books, small plants and trinkets and is as known as the “Maughold Exchange.”
At the opening of the Maughold exchange The Social Club released the following:
"In the past a public telephone was an important point of communication – many of us can remember queuing up outside such a telephone box and being frustrated by the person on the phone talking for hours, perhaps to their girl or boyfriend, oblivious to those waiting outside.
We would like it to continue using “our” telephone box as a point of contact between us –whether we meet there or not – and to do this take our unwanted books, trinkets and surplus plants there where they can be collected and appreciated by another parishioner."
