The sculpture is a tribute of the artist to Cuban women. It represents a beautiful woman's face with butterfly-shaped flowers in her head instead of hair. Rafael San Juan used steel because "it is a solid material that has its own character and represents women because they are the highest expression of life".

Primavera was completed by Rafael San Juan and his team in a record time of three months, to integrate it in the project "Behind the Wall", one of the collateral programs that were developed within the framework of the XII Biennale of Havana. In an interview with Radio Havana, the artist explained that in other circumstances it would have taken six months to forge and weld the pieces that make up this sculpture of more than seven meters and a half high, nearly four meters wide and one and a half meters deep. After the Biennale, the work was donated to the Historian's Office as a sign of gratitude for their support during the arduous process of realization.
