Glover's brewery was on this Sutherland Road site originally, until Joules of Stone bought them out in 1903. The police purchased the brewery from Joules, demolished it, and built the original Longton Police Station in 1905. The building was later demolished in 1992. (

The 1905 date stone of the original Longton Police Station incorporates a Stafford knot - one of the few examples which is correctly executed - going from the top left, the first strand of rope should cross OVER the other rope and not UNDER as shown on the majority of Stafford knots.
