Don was a lifelong farmer, retiring from dairy farming in 1988. He was a member and held leadership positions with many organizations including Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension, FSA, Dairylea, Harpursville School Board, Colesville Historians Advisory Committee, Doraville Schoolhouse Restoration & St. Luke's Museum.
