The Paternoster Square Column is the focal point of the restored paternoster Square which was once the center for publishing in London. The column is 23.3 meters tall and is part of a ventilation system for the traffic circle and the car park beneath. It was designed by the architectural firm of Whitfield Partners and constructed in 2003 of Portland stone, Cornish granite and gilded copper.
The column features a hexagonal stone base with panels featuring running water, a fluted Corinthian column and a gilded copper urn with flame on top. The column serves a secondary function as a memorial to the Great Fire of 1666 and the Blitz of World War II, both of which destroyed the area.
