Located in Greenhorn Park is a make-believe mining town which comprises a historic blacksmith shop and carriage house and some old mining equipment, preserved and put on display. One of these pieces of equipment is a large stamp mill, built in 1874 by the Miners Foundry in San Francisco. many parts of this stamp mill have been replaced over the years and it appears that park volunteers give demonstrations of how this machine works because of the crushed rock laying noticeably around the mill.

I located an online book by Arcadia Publishing that highlights this stamp mill and reads:

A relic from past gold-mining activity sits on display at Greenhorn Park in Yreka. This is a five-unit California stamp mill used to crush rock. A single head could process 1.5 tons of ore. The large wheel on the right was connected to a power source, and the cams would lift and release the weights, which fell by gravity to break down the ore.

Type of Machine: Stamp Mill

Year the machine was built: 1874

Year the machine was put on display: 1980s

Is there online documentation for this machine: [Web Link]
