Pfifferdaj
The feast of the Menenriers (Pfifferdaj) with more than 600 years of age is the oldest festival of Alsace. It perpetuates the ties between the lords of Ribeaupierre and the minstrelers they protected. Each year, this authentic festival, a great popular encounter with the Middle Ages, takes place every first Sunday of September. Its theme evokes different aspects of medieval history: peasant life, life in the castle, pets or fabulous, constructions, travels, discoveries, works, trades, beliefs, hours and misfortunes ... The descendants of the middle-aged baladins, fifes or drummers from the Rhineland, accompany the procession of horsemen and tanks and revive for thousands of spectators massed in the old town, at the foot of the castles, the Scenes interpreted by local associations. The ingenuity of the tank builders and seamstresses, the game of nearly 1,500 extras enchant the spectators of this colorful medieval fresco for two hours.
