West Kerr CurrentAbout 200 descendants of early settlers — Allerkamps, Burows and Holekamps, the Kargers, Lichs and Pfeiffers, the Reehs, Saurs, Schellhases, Schladoers, Spenraths, Voigts and Wiedenfelds, to name a few — came together at the community center pavilion to share stories and to reconnect with their pioneer past.
Along with plenty of food (plus a pie and cake contest), music and neighborly conversations, there were copies of the newly-published “Cypress Creek Album,” which contains the histories and photographs of its settling families.
Among the many individuals making contributions, the tome was compiled by a committee (Laura Pfeiffer Rhodes, Margaret Kutzer Morries, and Anne and Mike Stewart).
More than 60 families and individuals were featured in the album, and several dozen more entries listed specific memories of people, places and events.
At the celebration, the doors were open to the preserved tiny one-room schoolhouse, which had operated from 1908-1942, and for some, it was a chance for nostalgia.
