In 1863, a disused grain warehouse was converted into a small Catholic Chapel. The Chapel was replace by the present Church in the early 20th Century and the old Chapel was demolished apart from the gable wall which was retained and is located outside the presbytery.

Today the shrine of Our Lady Star of the Sea stands in front of this remnant gable wall.
