Vita:
Siegfried J. Assmann (Assi)
Painter and sculptor
(Born February 1, 1925 in Kirchplatz, province of Poznan) is a German painter and sculptor who has emerged in the glass painting sector in particular. Siegfried Assmann lives and works in Großhansdorf near Hamburg.
From 1947, Assmann studied painting, wall design and graphic design at the Landeskunstschule in Hamburg, together with fellow students such as Horst Janssen, Paul Wunderlich, Siegfried Oelke. He learned plastic sculptures in Carolus Voigt's studio, while working with colored glass during a stay in Überlingen on Lake Constance. In 1952 Assmann had a first great success when he won a public competition for the design of a lead-window in the Kreuzkirche in Hamburg-Ottensen. After this breakthrough, Assmann recorded numerous other assignments, especially in Northern Germany, which were not restricted to sacred subjects, although these were always a focus of his work. At the beginning of the 1960s, his activity increasingly shifted to the field of plastic.
