The Manteca Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was established on March 19, 1981. The church building was dedicated ten years later in November 1991. By 2011, the Manteca stake had reached a membership of 14,300.

An article in the Manteca Bulletin commemorates the 30th anniversary of the local chapter.
